Do ashkenazi women say shehecheyanu when we light yom tov candles? Toda and Shana tova umetuka,
תשובה
To the Questioner,
Ashkenazi women say a Shehechiyanu at the time of lighting candles on both nights of Rosh Hashana.
Because of this, on the second night it is proper that she should place a new fruit on the table before her lighting the candles (or wear at that time a new garment).
Since she says Shechiyanu at the time of candlelighting, it is preferable that she not answer "amen" to the bracha of Shehechiyanu that is recited by the man at the time of Kiddush.
